Japanese Product name: KASANEL いちごタルトアイス
KASANEL: Where Japanese Artistry Meets Decadent Western Indulgence – A Culinary Revelation from imuraya
One of Japan’s oldest ice cream brands, imuraya(井村屋), is shaking up its traditional image as a maker of Japanese-style ice cream by launching a new line of Western-style ice creams, creating quite a buzz domestically.
While I highly recommend trying their classic Azuki Bar (あずきバー), which has been loved by people of all ages for years (just be careful not to break a tooth on its rock-hard texture! Haha), this new brand Kasanel might be more familiar to many of you.
You can experience the luxurious taste reminiscent of a patisserie tart cake!
Available nationwide for a limited time only. Suggested retail price: 220 yen (excluding tax)
Discover the Layers: Unveiling the Structure of Strawberry Tart Ice

This product consists of the following four layers from top to bottom:
🍓 Strawberry sauce with real strawberry pieces
🥚 Custard ice cream
🍫 White chocolate coating
🥧 Tart crust
Check out what’s waiting inside!

The first thing you’ll see is the strawberry sauce packed with juicy strawberry chunks, spread generously across the top.
Let’s dig in! 🙂
Taste Review

Scooped up a generous spoonful of all four layers together.
The small black specks mixed in the custard ice cream (you might need to zoom in if your screen is small) are vanilla beans.
The rich flavor of egg yolk spreads intensely, while the elegant aroma of vanilla beans softly drifts through your nose!
The rich and creamy taste of egg yolk is so full of vitality … You can almost feel the strength of the egg itself. I bet the hens that laid these eggs were brimming with life and spirit!🐔
Complementing this full-bodied yolk flavor, the intense vanilla aroma spreads in perfect balance.
Then, let’s take a closer look at to the other layers.
The strawberry sauce has a refreshing crunch from the frozen fruit pieces and a perfect balance of sweet and tart.
It’s like a cake covered with strawberry puree on top and generously topped with chunks of frozen strawberries.
The tart crust at the bottom is rich in texture and has a delightful wheat aroma.
The crust is thick and provides a satisfying bite.
Here’s what it looks like after a scoop.

The tart crust is thick!🙌
It somehow feels like layers of thin puff pastry stacked together, reminiscent of a mille-feuille.
And we can’t overlook the presence of the white chocolate coating hiding between the tart crust and the custard ice cream.

This white chocolate coating might be easy to miss at first glance. It adds a gentle, rounded sweetness and enhances the richness, complementing the custard perfectly.
Taking a bite of all four layers together gives you the same satisfaction as enjoying a strawberry tart from a patisserie.
Despite its 90ml volume, it offered an impressive amount of deliciousness!☺️
